Climbing 57 stories in modified firefighting gear, participants aimed to raise awareness about cancer's toll, particularly among firefighters
More than 450 firefighters gathered in downtown Calgary on Sunday for the 11th annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge — a grueling fundraiser that saw participants race up 1,370 steps at Brookfield Place, Calgary’s tallest skyscraper.
Climbing 57 stories in modified firefighting gear, participants aimed to raise awareness about cancer’s toll, particularly among firefighters, who face elevated risk due to toxic exposures on the job. Proceeds from the fundraiser support Wellspring Alberta, a charity that provides free cancer support programs to patients, caregivers and families.
