A child is dead after allegedly being struck by a speed boat while riding an inflatable tube attached to a boat off Cates Park in North Vancouver.
North Vancouver RCMP confirmed on June 8 that an 11-year-old child died.
"Our sincerest condolences to the child’s family and friends as they deal with this tragic loss of life,” says Cpl. Mansoor Sahak.
A second child was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. Police did not release the age of this child.
“Life-saving measures were applied to both children. Sadly, one child did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene," says Sahak.
The boat driver of the vessel that struck the inflatable tube was arrested on June 7 after the incident.
