SOLON, Iowa (KCRG) - Austin “Flash” Schroeder died from lymphoma in 2015, but for a decade since, his memory has lived on baseball fields across Iowa.

The Crosstown Classic invites youth and high school baseball teams to the Solon Recreation and Nature Area. The goal is to help raise money for the Fight with Flash foundation, which aims to support adolescent cancer victims and fund adolescent cancer research.

Austin’s friends and family say one of their favorite parts of the annual event is seeing communities from across Iowa come together for the cause, especially those young players who never knew Austin.

“It’s cool seeing all (the young players) wearing Flash shirts, even if they didn’t get to meet him,” said Austin’s friend Carter Johnson. ”Especially through the game of baseball. F
