With barely two weeks until the start of early voting, the two leading candidates for mayor, Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, appeared at the Puerto Rican Day Parade Sunday with an eye toward courting Latino voters.

Mamdani appeared alongside two of New York’s most prominent Puerto Rican elected officials, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Nydia Velazquez.

Ocasio-Cortez was making her first joint public appearance with Mamdani since endorsing him on Thursday, and the two rode atop a float side by side. Speaking to reporters, she pointed to Mamdani’s focus on affordability.

“The number one thing that’s most important to us is not just our representation and our power, but also our ability to stay in New York,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
