Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined Democratic governors from across the country in denouncing President Donald Trump's deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles amid ongoing protests over immigration raids in southern California.
Whitmer was among 22 Democratic governors who signed a statement calling Trump's decision an "alarming abuse of power." California Gov. Gavin Newsom shared the statement on Sunday on X.
"Governors are the Commanders in Chief of their National Guard and the federal government activating them in their own borders without consulting or working with a state's governor is ineffective and dangerous," read the statement.
