Seattle police detectives are investigating an arson-related homicide in Wallingford after a 72-year-old woman died from injuries she sustained in a fire last Wednesday.

On June 4, at about 1:00 a.m., patrol officers and the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded to the 3800 block of Sunnyside Avenue North for a tree fire. When they arrived, the nearby house caught fire.

SFD located an elderly woman inside of the residence while fighting the fire. They performed life-saving measures and transported her to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) in critical condition.

SPD’s Arson-Bomb Squad was initially assigned to this case with the assistance of an SFD fire investigator. Police discovered that an individual left the scene before first responders arrived.
