The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating a man’s serious injuries after he was bitten by a police dog in Dauphin on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at about 3:11 a.m. after Dauphin RCMP went to a hotel in the 1600 block of Main Street South for a report of a man who was in a mental health crisis, an IIU news release said.
When police arrived, the man had already left. Police eventually found him in dense bush area.
“Police dog services were deployed, resulting in the male sustaining a dog bite,” the release said.
The man was taken to hospital and admitted for treatment.
RCMP notified the IIU of the incident on the same day.
