SHELBY, N.C. — The Wheeling Post 1 squad was triumphant in their final game against North Carolina on Sunday, finishing their time in the early-season tournament with a 4-2 victory over Columbiana Post 19 from Tennessee.
Post 1 leapt out to a first-inning lead with Jaxon Murray tallying an RBI single and Zade Billings notching a two-run single. Ethan Clark drove in a runner on a fielder’s choice to put Wheeling ahead 4-0 after one.
Columbiana tagged on two in the third inning but that would be the last of the scoring for either team.
Donavan Jones earned the win for Post 1, striking out three and giving up five hits while working into the sixth inning. Chris Upton worked the final outs, allowing zero hits and striking out one batter.
Murray and Chris Upton each finished with two hits.
