SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A 29-year-old man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing a backpack and attempting to take an officer's handgun at the Salt Lake International Airport on Sunday.

The suspect, identified as Joseph Johnson, was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, where he faces first-degree felony disarming of a police officer, third-degree felony theft and misdemeanor public intoxication and interfering with a police officer.

According to court documents, Johnson took a backpack with about $4,000 worth of property from another passenger at an airline lounge in the airport. Police said he later left the lounge when asked, but did not make any attempt to return the backpack and had to be tracked down by airport officers.

Johnson was reportedly "briefly compliant"
