HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A woman who claimed to be a mermaid is facing charges after a small child fell out of her kayak and she had to swim across a neighborhood pond while holding the child, according to an Horry County police report.

Sasha Rodriguez then allegedly "stripped off her clothes to prove that she was a mermaid," the report said. She was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child after the June 6 incident on Maypop Circle.

According to an arrest warrant, Rodriquez placed the child in the kayak "without proper safety equipment." She was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $2,500 bond and released the following day, jail records show.
