President Donald Trump railed against California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Karen Bass on Truth Social Monday afternoon, saying they should be thanking him after he brought in the National Guard to quell protests over the weekend.

“We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated,” Trump said.

“The very incompetent ‘Governor,’ Gavin Newscum, and ‘Mayor,’ Karen Bass, should be saying, ‘THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR,” the President raged.

Trump’s lengthy post went on to say, “Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are ‘peaceful protests.’ Just one look at the pictures and videos of the Violence and Destruction tells you all you have to know.”

He ended by saying, “We will always do what is needed to keep our Citizens SAFE, so we can, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles Saturday night in response to protests over immigration raids, according to a White House Statement. Law enforcement officials deployed tear gas and rubber bullets into crowds over a two-day period. There were multiple arrests.

Newsom and Bass, for their part, have decried the move. The governor has called Trump’s “purposefully inflammatory” and believes it will “erode public trust.”
