LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The City of Laredo held its 26th Annual Fishing Derby on Saturday morning, June 7, bringing together kids, families, and fishing fans of all ages.

Eddie Millan with Parks and Recreation said the event began small, with only about 30 people participating in the early years. This year, around 90 people participated in the competition, and more than 200 attended to watch and cheer.

12-year-old Damien Treviño won the Boys Big Fish division with a catch weighing over four pounds. In the Girls Big Fish division, 7-year-old Sofia Hernandez won with a fish that weighed over five pounds.
