On May 23, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration initiated a recall of tens of thousands of cases of Dr Pepper over mislabeling.
The voluntary recall involves 19,203 12-pack and 24-pack cases of 12-ounce cans of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar.
Labeled as “zero sugar,” the products were found to contain full sugar, making them unsafe for diabetics and others who need to avoid the ingredient.
For reference, a 12-ounce can of regular Dr Pepper contains 39 grams of sugar.
On June 5, the FDA classified the recall as Class II , which means a product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
