GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Police Department found a card skimming device inside an ATM at a Grand Island bank.
The skimmer was found outside the First Interstate Bank on West 2nd Street on June 6.
According to GIPD, the ATM had not been working for a few days and the company who maintains the device sent a tech to investigate. When the tech started to work on the ATM, the small skimmer fell out.
According to the United States Secret Service , ATM skimmers are devices inserted deep into card readers, and typically impossible to detect from the outside of the device.
The skimmer records the data on the metallic stripe, as well as the chip on the card. It can then store or transmit the data to a third party.
