OOCEANA COUNTY — One driver was killed on June 7 after a collision with a tree in Oceana County.

According to a June 9 news release from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a Pontiac Vibe, 43-year-old Eugene Heiss, was traveling eastbound on E. Harrison Road between N. 148th Ave. and N. 152nd Ave.

As Heiss was traveling eastbound, he went off the road onto the shoulder and did not appear to stop before making contact with a tree head-on.

The vehicle then reportedly caught on fire due to the impact and Heiss was found by the rear passenger door. He pronounced deceased at the scene.

Autopsy results are pending. The June 9 police report noted that Heiss was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
