CLEVELAND, Ohio — A California egg producer is recalling about 1.7 million dozen eggs that may be contaminated with salmonella.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that as of June 5, 79 people from nine states have been infected with the outbreak strain of salmonella.
The affected eggs were sold at Walmart locations across Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Washington and Wyoming. The recall includes both cage-free and certified organic brown eggs.
According to the FDA , the eggs were sold in cartons marked with plant codes P-6562 or CA-5330 and Julian dates ranging from 032 to 126. The company behind the recall, August Egg Company, said it began diverting eggs to a facility that pasteurizes them after discovering contamination at it
