MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- Yannick Ngaleu died a hero on his birthday, but should have been praised as a living one instead, his family and attorneys said in a newly filed lawsuit.
The Silver Spring, Md. man was in Myrtle Beach for a 21st birthday celebration when on June 13, 2022 he noticed a child and father struggling in the ocean near 7th Ave N., caught in a powerful rip current.
"Despite the fact that multiple swimmers were in clear and visible distress, no lifeguard intervened, no warning was issued and no immediate rescue efforts were initiated by the defendants or their personnel," the June 6 wrongful death suit claims. "Because no trained lifeguards came to assist, Yannick entered the water himself to rescue the child and father who were actively drowning."
