There is plenty of talk now about a Denver pro team on pace to have the worst record in the history of its sport. National media are chronicling a sports train wreck in Colorado.

Actually, it has happened before.

While the Rockies are in jeopardy of having the worst record in the modern history of Major League Baseball, the Nuggets are 27 years removed from also being in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

In 1997-98, the Nuggets flirted throughout the season with having the worst record in NBA history. They were the butt of jokes while on pace to top (or is it bottom?) the Philadelphia 76ers’ 1972-73 mark of 9-73 until they managed to dig out of a 5-58 hole and finish 11-71.
