SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) -- South Carolina transportation officials said Monday that officials are "aware" of two recent problems with the historic Socatee swing bridge that caused it to become stuck in the open position.
The two "brief closures," including one over the weekend, left the bridge impassable for drivers, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said. One was caused by a power surge and the other by a mechanical issue with the lock bar.
"The Socastee Swing bridge is a historic structure, nearly 100 years old, and while it is fully operational and safe for travel, we do occasionally experience maintenance issues that have to be addressed," the SCDOT told News13.
