SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - A Sparks woman has been sentenced to ten years in prison for organizing a Ponzi scheme and obstructing the government’s investigation. Anna Kline, 35, former known as Jordanna Weber, pleaded guilty in federal court in New Jersey to two counts of wire fraud. Kline must also pay $3.4 million in restitution.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey says Kline operated several shell companies that falsely purported to offer lending services, often to small businesses seeking high value loans. Kline required the victims to pay up to 5 percent of the loan amount as an up-front fee. Kline then gave victims bogus explanations for the loan funding being delayed. Six victims transferred $7 million dollars to Kline.
