Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) took another shot at House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in his ongoing spat with Johnson and President Donald Trump amid ongoing disagreements over fiscal policy and party leadership.
Massie — who once took part in an effort to oust Johnson from the speakership — took aim at the House speaker again on Monday.
"Nancy Pelosi once said the House needed to vote for a bill to find out what was in it. Today @SpeakerJohnson said 'hold my beer.' He just announced he’s using the Rules Committee to change the text of the Big Beautiful Bill a week after we voted on it!"
The House passed Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” on May 22 by a narrow margin. The bill is now in the Senate, where lawmakers are considering changes.
Johnson has said they're targeting July 4 for final passage, depending on Senate action, and has asked his Senate colleagues to be mindful of any changes they plan to make due to his chamber's razor-thin margin.
Politico reported Monday that House Republicans plan to try to fix disagreements with the megabill in the Rules Committee this week based on issues identified by the Senate parliamentarian.
"In the words of one senior House GOP aide, granted anonymity to speak candidly, certain House-approved provisions could prove 'fatal' to the bill’s ability to comply with the rules surrounding the filibuster-skirting budget reconciliation process, which Republicans are relying upon to pass their domestic policy measure without Democratic votes," the report said.
