CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Researchers at the University of Virginia have developed a new artificial pancreas system aimed at improving blood sugar management for people with Type 1 diabetes. The system uses “digital twin” technology to create a virtual model of each patient’s unique metabolic system.
Called Adaptive Biobehavioral Control, the system adapts every two weeks to reflect changes in the user’s body. The digital twin allows patients to test different insulin dosing strategies in a virtual environment before applying them in real life. This helps find the best treatment approach tailored to the individual’s specific needs.
