VANCOUVER, Wash. (KATU) — A group of protesters gathered in Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver to show solidarity with demonstrators in Los Angeles who are protesting against deportations.

"We're here today because we appreciate our immigrants. They're the backbone of our country. I live across the street from a farm, a berry farm, and I watch the immigrants every day go out, and work their butts off to provide us food," said Patti Morgan, one of the protesters.

Some participants expressed concern over the federal government's decision to deploy the National Guard, which they believe escalates the situation.

"The National Guard should not be there, they should let the local police handle it. If they actually send in the marines they shouldn't be there either. They're not supposed
