Two campers were found dead at a remote campground of Isle Royale National Park, the National Park Service said on June 10.

The park service said the individuals have not been identified. The cause of death is undetermined at this time.

The park service received reports of two dead people at a backcountry campground in the park at about 4 p.m. Sunday, June 8, the park service said in a news release on June 10.

Rangers hiked about 11 miles overnight to the site and reached the scene the morning of Monday, June 9, and confirmed finding two bodies.

Ground and aviation resources started responding to the scene on Monday, June 9, the release says. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Isle Royale has 36 campgrounds across the island, the park website notes.
