SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 20-year-old smoke shop employee was shot multiple times during a break-in early Tuesday morning.

Akron Police said this happened at the Red Eye Smoke Shop in the 1600 block of Brittain Rd. at 1:08 a.m.

Three unidentified suspects used a rock to break out the front window while the employee was sleeping, said police.

Once inside, the suspects shot the employee multiple times in the leg.

The victim managed to return fire and the suspects then fled on foot, said police.

When officers arrived at the store, they immediately rendered first aid until paramedics transported him to Summa Health-Akron City Hospital.

Police said the employee has non-life-threatening injuries.
