(KBTX) - Prairie View A&M football player Jackson Bailey died at 22 years old.

The defensive lineman joined the Panthers in the 2023 season. He didn’t appear in any games at Prairie View, but “his presence and energy were felt deeply within the locker room and across campus,” according to a release from the athletic department.

Bailey is from DeSoto and went to Red Oak High School. He earned 5A Div. I all-state honors as a senior after recording 64 tackles (four for loss), four interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, and recovered three fumbles in 2020.

He began his collegiate career at Arizona, where he redshirted, and then he transferred to Louisiana-Monroe for a season before going to Prairie View A&M.

Bailey said he came to Prairie View because he “wanted to be closer to home.” In
