A standoff in Harvest involving a barricaded man inside a home ended peacefully after nearly five hours.

The Huntsville Police Department said the standoff began at 4 P.M. Tuesday afternoon when a potential burglary was reported in the 1400 block of Water Stream Drive.

Upon arrival, police evacuated the homeowner, who was still inside the residence. Authorities then negotiated with the suspect for several hours before he surrendered just before 9 P.M.

"Further investigation into the matter has revealed that we do not believe a burglary has occurred," Sgt. Christopher Jackson told WAAY 31, "we believe that the person that was within the residence was experiencing a mental health crisis."
