Millions are poised to benefit from a winter fuel payment this year , following a significant U-turn by the government. It was confirmed on Monday that pensioners earning £35,000 or less will be eligible for the payment, potentially worth up to £300, later this year.

This announcement partially reverses a controversial policy introduced last year which brought in means-testing for the winter fuel payment. This move drastically slashed the number of pensioners receiving the aid from 11.4 million to roughly 1.5 million. ‌
