‘Avoid the area’ where person is barricaded, Richland County deputies say

“Please avoid the area,” the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday morning.

Deputies were on the scene of home in the 1500 block of Horseshoe Drive where a person was barricaded inside, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

That’s a busy area of Columbia, near Exit 74 on Interstate 20, which is the junction with Two Notch Road. It’s densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants, and is a high-traffic spot.

The sheriff’s department said the person who was barricaded was a suspect, but did not say what crime they were suspected of committing. There was no word if the person was armed.

Information about any roadblocks, or if the area was evacuated was not available.

No injuries have been reported.
