Parks Canada has revoked the permit for a concert by U.S. musician Sean Feucht, a prominent figure in the MAGA movement, scheduled for a national historic site near Halifax. Despite the permit cancellation, the concert will proceed at a different location. Feucht was set to perform at the York Redoubt National Historic Site, a fortification built in 1793, on Wednesday night.
Feucht, who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Congress as a Republican in 2020, is known for his missionary work and authorship. He has publicly opposed the 2SLGBTQ+ community, abortion rights, and critical race theory on his website. Concerns from local residents about the concert's alignment with Parks Canada's principles of inclusion and safety prompted the permit revocation. Some residents had planned to protest the event.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Parks Canada clarified that the concert was not an agency-sponsored event and was organized by a permit holder.
In a related development, the City of Charlottetown also revoked a permit for a concert by Feucht, which was to take place on city-owned land. The city cited evolving public safety and security concerns as the reason for the permit cancellation. The concert was scheduled for Thursday at Confederation Landing, just days before the city’s Pride Fest 2025.
Charlottetown officials emphasized their commitment to public safety and stated that the event did not reflect the city's values of inclusivity. Local MP Sean Casey expressed that many constituents had voiced their concerns regarding the concert. He stated, "While I fully respect the right to freedom of expression, I do not believe this event reflects the values of inclusivity and respect that define the City of Charlottetown or the Government of Canada."
The concert originally planned for Halifax will now take place at a new venue in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, approximately 60 kilometers north of Halifax. This new location is associated with a religious group called Lighthouse Ministries.
