In the warm coastal waters of Florida, sharks are a constant presence.

Three shark bites in South Florida in the past 10 days are a reminder that swimmers, divers, fishermen and surfers need to be aware of the risk of the danger that lurks only yards offshore.

“Florida has miles of coastline and thousands of people in the water at any given time,” said Dr. Robert Borrego , Trauma Medical Director at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. “It is the number one place for the amount of shark bites.”
