Eileen Fulton, Emmy-winning actress, singer, daytime television constant and Broadway performer, died this month. Some people in McDowell County remember when she was a young girl in Marion yearning to make her mark on the stage and screen.

Fulton died Monday, July 14, in Asheville at the age of 91. She lived in Black Mountain during her final years, but when she was a teenager, Fulton lived in Marion, where her father was the pastor for the First Methodist Church.

Born in Asheville in 1933, she was the daughter of the Rev. James B. McLarty, a Methodist minister, and Margaret Glenn McLarty, a public school teacher.

The Rev. McLarty served as the pastor for the First Methodist Church of Marion from 1946 to 1950 when his daughter was a teenager. The family lived in the house that was then
