CHEYENNE — A U.S. District Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit alleging that the enforcement of a new Wyoming election law is unconstitutional.

The law was passed by the Wyoming Legislature earlier this year as House Bill 156 and was Secretary of State Chuck Gray’s top priority to get through the state’s governing body.

As of July 1, the law requires Wyoming voters to be state residents for at least 30 days before casting their ballots, and they must present proof of residency and American citizenship when registering to vote.

Filed by the Equality State Policy Center, the lawsuit argues HB 156 causes an undue burden on the right to vote — particularly for women, as well as Hispanic, young and low-income voters — and is unconstitutionally vague as written.
