UPDATE: On Aug. 1, the Derry Township Police Department finalized its review of the drowning incident at Hersheypark and determined the incident did not involve any criminal activity on the part of Hersheypark or its employees. Police said the review of the incident revealed safety standards were being upheld by Hersheypark and the number of people in the wave pool at the time of the incident was significantly less than its designed maximum capacity.

A 9-year-old child has died after an incident at The Boardwalk water park at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on Thursday.

A Hersheypark spokesperson confirmed that the incident happened at the wave pool, which is closed on Friday out of respect for the victim's family and the staffers who tried to save the child's life.
