TEXAS, USA — During a time when the Trump Administration and the Department of Government Efficiency instituted budget and staffing cuts at the National Weather Service (NWS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), East Texas Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-1st District) wants to strengthen weather radar coverage in his district.
The problem, the Republican lawmaker argues, is that rural areas face consistent gaps in early warning systems.
He says his district in northeast Texas, for instance, is caught in between the DFW radars and Shreveport radars, so some low level systems under 6,000 feet are tougher to see.
