Over the course of The Sandman ’s run on Netflix, we’ve learned that our brooding, dark-eyed, reverie-ruling protagonist has many names. There’s the colloquial “Sandman,” of course; more formally, Lord Morpheus, King of Dreams, Dream Lord, and, drawing on his family surname, Dream of the Endless. The “First People” knew him as Kai’ckul, while the Ancient Greeks called him Oneiros, and the Norse, Dreamweaver. But in the series’ final season—the second half of which was just released (save for a forthcoming Death-focused bonus episode) on Thursday—has favored another sobriquet for the keeper of that mysterious place we go when we sleep: Lord Shaper.
