President Donald Trump told reporters this week that he is considering a tariff rebate check.

The backstory:

Trump made the remarks Friday morning, when he was speaking with reporters outside the White House before departing for Scotland.

Several asked him questions about the upcoming Aug. 1 deadline for taxes to be imposed on dozens of countries if they haven’t reached a deal with the president.

Specifically, one reporter asked Trump, "With all of that (tariff) revenue coming in … do you think there is the possibility of a rebate to the American public in terms of all of that money?"
