BOULDER — An emotional Deion Sanders said he had his bladder surgically removed after a cancerous tumor was discovered.

Sanders, who had been away from the CU-Boulder campus since April, said during a news conference Monday at Folsom Field his life was in danger during the offseason scare.

“God is so good. God is so good. You have no idea how good He has been for me to be here,” Sanders said.

Sanders added he now is cancer free.

“It’s beaten,” said a UCHealth official who joined Sanders on the dais.

Sanders, who is entering his third season as head coach of the Buffs football program, pleaded with people to visit a doctor for testing to avoid his situation.

“If it can’t happen to Prime, baby, it can happen to you,” he said.
