The Atlantic and Cape May County Prosecutors' Offices will split a $1.3 million grant from the Attorney General's Office of Alternative and Community Responses to support mental health diversion programs, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Atlantic County formed its mental health court in 2023 with the goal of identifying those with mental illness facing certain indictable offenses who can comply with supervised treatment in exchange for diversion if they follow the conditions in place to address their needs, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday in a news release.

Those who accept treatment are eligible for a downgrade or dismissal of certain criminal charges, the Prosecutor's Office said.
