There’s no intermission in the musical A Strange Loop—except at the beginning, with the opener “Intermission Song,” in which the customary chimes that indicate it’s almost showtime turn into a cacophony of an usher’s inner thoughts. Beginning at the middle is appropriate for this meta, loopy, self-referential musical, in which a Black, queer, fat Broadway usher (named Usher) works on writing his own musical about a Black, queer, fat Broadway usher who’s working on his own musical about his life.
