MONROE COUNTY, Ill. – A one-year-old child drowned Monday afternoon, despite the best efforts of first responders in Monroe County, Illinois.
Monroe County deputies and EMS were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. to the Country Lakes subdivision, just outside Waterloo, after a child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool.
According to Sgt. Justin Biggs, a spokesman for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers notified responders that the family had placed the child in a vehicle and were driving toward town to meet EMS.
Within two minutes of being dispatched, Waterloo Police officers and Monroe County deputies located the vehicle in the 500 block of East Fourth Street in Waterloo, removed the child, and began to administer CPR with EMS en route. An AED was used as well.
