The Connecticut Inspector General has cleared two Naugatuck police officers who opened fire on a man who was armed with a knife and reportedly trying to die by suicide by cop in a park in April 2024.

The results of the investigation were released by the Office of the Inspector General, who found that Officers Crystal Hudson and Joseph Palhete of the Naugatuck Police Department acted “objectively reasonable” and were “legally justified” when they shot and wounded Kyle O’Creene, who was 24 at the time.

The actions by both officers were consistent with what “a reasonably trained police officer would have believed” was necessary to stop O’Creene from advancing toward police with a large kitchen knife in his hand, Inspector General Eliot Prescott wrote.
