UPPER TOWNSHIP — Emergency responders cut their way into a vehicle to reach a trapped person after a head-on collision Saturday on South Shore Road in the Palermo section of the township.

Three people were taken to hospitals, including the entrapped driver of one of the cars who was transported by helicopter, according to details from township officials and the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company.

Multiple emergency services responded, included two paramedic units from AtlantiCare, along with Seaville Fire and Rescue, the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company, Upper Township EMS, Marmora firefighters and firefighters from Ocean City.

There was no response to a request for more details from State Police, which provides police services to the township.
