The U.S. Department of Justice has amended its complaint against the state of Colorado and the city of Denver over "sanctuary" policies.

The lawsuit was initially filed in May, but the amended complaint, submitted last Friday, now also targets the legal challenge made last week by Attorney General Phil Weiser against a Mesa County deputy sheriff.

"When officers choose to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement agents to keep their communities safe and enforce federal law, the State of Colorado hauls them into court as punishment for doing their jobs," the lawsuit said.

Weiser's lawsuit alleged that Deputy Alexander Zwinck improperly shared information with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement about a 19-year-old nursing student who was the subject of a traffic stop.
