ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — A fire that broke out at a home in Elmira on Wednesday evening caused a portion of a city street to be blocked off.

According to an 18 News reporter at the scene, Walnut Street in Elmira was shut down between Second and Third Street as of 6:15 p.m., by members from the Elmira Police Department.

Reports of a structure fire at a home on Walnut Street came in around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30. Emergency crews from the Elmira Fire Department, West Elmira Fire Department, and Elmira Police Department were called to tend to the fire at 211 Walnut St.

The home had no visible flames around 6:15 p.m., but smoke was coming from the roof's edge, and emergency crews were working to put out any hot spots, the reporter said.
