Phoenix Realtors board president: This year marks lowest share of first-time home buyers since data collection started in 1981

The new school year opens Thursday around Deer Valley Unified School District, and the 42-school district is already sure of one thing: enrollment figures to be down.

District administrators are anticipating a decline of 900 students from one year ago .

A number of contributing factors are among those analyzed in a demographic and enrollment report from Phoenix consulting firm Applied Economics that issued its findings in October 2024 . The lack of affordable housing for young families within the district’s boundaries is one of the factors cited.
