HARTFORD, Conn. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced on Tuesday its intention to rescind the “endangerment finding,” which was much to the chagrin of top Connecticut officials.
Established by the administration of President Barack Obama, the “endangerment finding” enables the EPA to regulate greenhouse gas emissions as air pollutants under the Clean Air Act.
According to a state release, the finding reflects the scientifically backed and widely understood connection between greenhouse gases, air pollution and harm to human health and the environment.
Gov. Ned Lamont said that rolling back the protections puts children, seniors and vulnerable people at greater risk from the harmful effects of greenhouse gas pollution.
