A couple of days ago, Basketball Network’s Adel Ahmad recounted when Tim Duncan pushed back against “ring culture” after the 2003 championship stating,

“People say, ‘You’ve done this once, you’ve won twice, what else do you have left to do?’ That’s the stupidest question I ever heard. To do it over and over again — you can’t beat that. Every time that you don’t win it, it’s more disappointing.”

Duncan’s goal was to win every year, and when the Spurs didn’t, Duncan wasn’t satisfied. It’s a different mindset that has been shared by players who make excuses for why they don’t win.
