Austin Hill will not participate in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway this weekend. On Tuesday, NASCAR announced that Hill will be suspended for the Xfinity Series race at Iowa after intentaionally wrecking Aric Almirola at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend. Richard Childress Racing will not appeal.
Hill turned his steering wheel left into Almirola's right rear, hooking him across the track into the outside wall at a high rate of speed. NASCAR gave Hill a five-lap penalty for reckless driving, prompting the driver's profanity-laced attack at the sport over the No. 21 team radio.
Almirola's No. 19 team called for Hill to be suspended for the Xfinity Series race at Iowa, and NASCAR agreed that he needed to sit out one week. Hill's suspension can now be added to the growing list of right-rear hooks resulting in penalties, joining Bubba Wallace (2022) and Chase Elliott (2023) over the last few years.
