(Columbia, MO) — Columbia Mall Manager Rusty Strodtman knows this will be a big weekend. He says back-to-school shopping is 2nd only to Christmas when it comes to shopping. He says the annual sales tax holiday in August tends to kick-off the back-to-school shopping season.

“It’s a big deal, we feel a lot of people from outside of the immediate Boone County market will come in for the tax free weekend. Maybe they’ve saved up for this weekend, knowing they’ll save money during the tax free weekend and make the drive over. It’s a big weekend for us,” said Strodtman.

State & local sales taxes are exempt this weekend on certain back-to-school items including clothing, school supplies, computers and other items. The Missouri Department of Revenue has additional information online.
